The Faculty of Letters at State University of Malang’s Research and Community Service Team, led by Dr. Lestari Setyowati, M.Pd, recently organized a workshop program in one of the Islamic private schools in Singosari, Malang. The team consisted of three lecturers of English Department served as speakers to provide training and support to Al-Ma’arif Islamic Middle School 02 Singosari.  .

The two-day workshop, held on June 23-24, 2023, received an enthusiastic response from teachers of various subjects who actively participated in the workshop. The workshop aimed at  assisting teachers in preparing teaching modules, effectively managing media resources, and strengthening literacy skills in alignment with the school’s independent learning policy.

During the workshop, participants were guided to develop personalized learning plans based on the Independent Curriculum guidelines. Additionally, they gained expertise in creating engaging and contemporary learning materials using modern educational applications. The workshop also emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of literacy within the school environment. To facilitate the learning process, participants were encouraged to formulate questions using a creative snakes and ladders game format. The speakers also introduced the participants to Canva, a modern learning application.

The principal of SMP Islam Al-Ma’arif 02 Singosari, Nikmatul Kholidah M.Pd, expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the two-day workshop, hoping for its continuation in the future to provide educators with innovative knowledge. Dr. Lestari Setyowati, M.Pd, the community service team leader, aspires that through these workshops, participants will become more creative and innovative. By understanding the concept of the “Merdeka Belajar” policy, mastering the use of interesting and modern learning media, and fostering a culture of literacy in schools, teachers can contribute to make brilliant students.
