SDG 4, SDG 17

The Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) is an annual program that allows Australian and Indonesian youth between the ages of 21-25 to travel to and study within each other’s respective countries. It is a chance for participants to grow their intercultural skills, professional experiences, and international networks. This program is sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia and Kementerian Pemuda dan Olahraga RI. Noviachri Imroatul Sa’diyah, an English Language Education student, represented her province in AIYEP 2020, which was held virtually due to COVID-19 (November 16th, 2020-January 4th, 2021). During the program, she undertook virtual work experience, courtesy calls with the governor-general of Australia, did educational and cultural performances, heard from high-level guest speakers, and worked collaboratively on a project relevant to her background and the bilateral relationship.

AIYEP means so much to her. It was such serendipity she found and a huge milestone she passed. She acquired her new best friend, Jayne Fendyk, as her counterpart. She and Jayne got a mentorship subprogram with Elly Kent, an editor of New Mandala at ANU and an intercultural professional over 20 years in academia and the arts in Indonesia and Australia. AIYEP lets her contribute to cultural exchange which promotes SDG 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) has a crucial role in efforts to reach sustainable development goals. This multi-level collaboration, dialogue, and silo-free thinking gain a cultural shift, mind-shift, and innovative approaches.
